THE WIND In The Willows is back at York Theatre Royal following its sell-out success in 2010.

The much-loved classic is presented in a new seating configuration with raised stalls to bring children closer to the action.

Families can meet the infamous Mr Toad and his friends, friendly Mole, amiable Ratty and wise Badger.

The quartet tell action-packed stories of boating on the river, adventuring in the Wild Wood, battling weasels at Toad Hall, and mishaps with motor cars.

The producers promise the biggest and best family event in Yorkshire this summer with live music and enchanting storytelling.

The foyer and sunny garden has been decorated in keeping with the show and a Willows-themed menu is running in the cafe.

Before the show all ticket-holders can explore a magical world both on stage and backstage, created by the theatre’s designers and craftsmen.

Families can sneak through Ratty’s house, tiptoe into Mole’s hole and marvel in Toad Hall.

There is also a fun-filled pre-show workshop entitled The Wild Wood Challenge, led by professional Youth Theatre Practitioners.

Children can learn how to become a Wild Wooder, how to spin a good yarn and how to repel a weasel attack. But watch out for the Badgers!

The workshop runs daily from noon to 1pm , and is recommended for ages seven to 11. Tickets cost £5 through the box office.

The Wind In The Willows is written by Mike Kenny and directed by Damian Cruden, with music by Christopher Madin.

Damian said: “It’s great to be going back to the wild wood and Toad Hall again this summer. This is such a fantastic adaptation by Mike Kenny as it captures the true depth of Grahame’s original.

“There’s lots of fun and beauty to be found in this production and I’m looking forward to working with some old friends and some new young wild-wooders who’ll be giving Mr Toad a run for his money.

“The music is enchanting and the designers have come up with some fantastic new ideas for the space.”

The Wind In The Willows runs until August 30. Call 01904 623568 or visit yorktheatreroyal.co.uk to book tickets.
