A NIGHT of variety in Bradford will celebrate 100 years of the Alhambra Theatre next month.

The event will pay homage to the day in 1914 when the Alhambra opened its doors to the public for the first time and put on a variety show

On September 20 Bradford Theatres will present a special tribute to this occasion. It will be headed up by musical theatre star Michael Ball, who will be joined by a glittering line-up of guests, including Billy Pearce, Joe McElderry, Joe Pasquale and dancers from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.

Michael has won acclaim over the last 25 years for his award-winning lead roles in the West End and on Broadway.

He has also had a career as a recording artist, live concert performer and broadcaster.

Comedian Billy Pearce will return to the Alhambra as part of the variety event before his16th pantomime season later in the year. He is currently touring the UK for his stand-up show, Funny Guy.

Joe McElderry will make his Alhambra stage debut on September 20. Having auditioned for The X Factor when he was 18, he wowed audiences and quickly gained the number one slot in the UK charts with ‘The Climb’.

He returned to our television screens in 2011 to win Popstar to Opera Star, and has performed live for the Queen at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Comedian Joe Pasquale has delighted audiences with his stand-up tours for almost 20 years. He starred in ITV’s Dancing on Ice in 2013.

Adam Renton, general manager at Bradford Theatres, said: “We are all looking ahead to our special celebration to acknowledge this magnificent milestone.

"We want the 100th anniversary event to be hugely memorable, and I’m delighted that we have secured such a fantastic line-up of talented performers who've agreed to be part of our evening.”
