Halifax's Square Chapel centre for the Arts is presenting another packed season of brilliant shows.

A programme of breathtaking dance and cutting edge drama, along with world class folk and fantastical productions has been put together for the autumn and winter.

Highlights include comedian, journalist, novelist and activist Rob Newman, who will make a hotly anticipated return to comedy with his first complete show in seven years.

He will perform New Theory of Evolution on September 13.

The season's line-up also features the multi award-winning Ballad of the Burning Star next month and the witty and fast paced Solfatara in October.

There will be two shows by Marsden-based theatre company Mikron – Troupers and Till The Cows Come Home.

Following last year’s sell-out concert, five-piece jive harmony band The Swing Commanders are back.

And to ensure the autumn closes in style, the Square Chapel Centre and Sticks Theatre have teamed up to present the festive family show The Wild Adventures of Robin Hood – a romp through the story of this outlaw with plenty of archery, sword-fighting, slapstick, songs and silliness.

On September 26 Chickenshed Theatre will present the dramatic one-man show The Rain That Washes – the story of a 14-year-old growing up in a turbulent Zimbabwe.

Children are also well catered for this season. The show POP! on October 26 will be full of illusion and daft slapstick comedy in the style of Mr Bean and Charlie Chaplin.

Families will appreciate Horse+Bamboo's production of the magical tale Hansel and Gretel on November 12. Expect plenty of music, puppets and masks.
