REMEMBRANCE Sunday is the day when the Municipal Theatre in Colne hosts a special performance to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

The theatre will be decked in red, white and blue for the show Songs For Victory – A Story Of Hope.

The presentation is described as a vintage treat, an authentic musical stage show celebrating the glorious songs of the 1930s and 40s.

The songs were made famous by some of Britain’s national treasures, such as Vera Lynn, Gracie Fields and George Formby.

It sets out to recreate a time when music and melodies kept loved ones close and gave a nation hope.

The new stage show comes to the Muni immediately after finishing its run in the West End.

At the heart of the story is a collection of unforgettable songs designed to have the audience singing along, shedding a tear and on their feet waving flags with patriotic vigour.

They include We’ll Meet Again, The White Cliffs Of Dover, Happy Days Are Here Again, By The Fireside, Underneath The Arches, Kiss Me Goodnight Sergeant Major and Land Of Hope And Glory.

A spokesman said: “With a top-class cast, stunning costumes and authentic scenery, this should be one night to remember – and a heart-wrenching trip down memory lane.”

Extracts from the show will feature in West End Heroes at the Dominion Theatre on September 28.
