ROCK HART will prove that burlesque isn’t just for women when he performs in Keighley next month.

He will show off his acclaimed Boylesque act as part of the Hell-raising Hallowe’en show at Keighley Civic Centre.

He is part of a line-up that also includes Bobbie Dazzler – alias Keighley woman Sian Chatfield – Tawny Kay and Coco Blue Ferrari.

Rob said burlesque was something he “sort of tripped and fell into” after years of thinking it belonged to the world of Gypsy Rose Lee and classic feather fan dancers.

He performed in a charity cabaret show called the Red Ribbon Cabaret, and afterwards the choreographer suggested he was a frustrated dancer.

He said: “Within the cabaret show I got to meet Eva Fox and Coco Malone who were known on the burlesque scene, and the compere Joe Black who blew me away with his grace and charisma.”

Rock answered a TV casting call for ‘Bearlesque’, a comedy burlesque performed by hairy men, and progress to make his public debut in Boylesque, the male form of burlesque dancing.

He said: “Everything I have learned has been self-taught, from going to burlesque shows, observing other performers, how they hold their stature and poise.

“I had always been intrigued by the circus and mime so I decided I should combine the two, and I came up with a glass walking routine.”

Since making his performing debut in February this year, he has won best performer at the Tea Time Tassel Off in Leeds, and a second prize at the Corset 'n' Cabaret new performers’ competition.

Rock has also helped organise the Preston Pride LGBT festival.

Hell-raising Hallowe’en will be at the Civic Centre, North Street, on November 11. Visit wegottickets.com/event/289180 to book tickets, which cost £8.

The event will raise money for the Salvation Army, Manorlands and Keighley and Airedale Cancer Support.
