THE STREETS of Victorian London will be recreated at Skipton’s Auction Mart for a classic musical this month.

Skipton Musical Theatre Company will perform the ever-popular Oliver! on October 30 and 31 and November 1.

The title role will be played by 12-year-old Benny Hick, from Silsden, in his first-ever role in a large-scale musical.

The show follows Oliver from his time in an orphanage – making trouble by asking for more food – to the criminal-infested London underworld.

In the family show Oliver falls in with a gang of child pickpockets led by the sinister Fagin, also falling foul of the evil Bill Sykes.

But help is at hand from Bill’s girlfriend Nancy and the kindly Mr Brownlow, and Oliver eventually discovers the truth about his past.

The role of Fagin will be played by Dale Chadwick, a regular performer with Keighley Playhouse, while Steve Charlton and and Helen Procter will play beloved Nancy.

The principle are supported by a cast of 17 children from throughout Craven, including Ruth Garrett from Skipton as Dodger, and a large chorus of adults.

The show is directed by Craig Cowdroy and the musical director is Cathy Sweet.
