Go Back For Murder – Keighley Playhouse

KEIGHLEY Playhouse set themselves a difficult challenge last week with five different areas to portray in the first five scenes of Act 1 in their production of Agatha Christie’s play.

I thought the set a little simple at first but soon realised the necessity of this, as the cast and crew worked quickly and seamlessly to change it to each different venue for the next part of the story.

In Act Two the stage became the full ‘scene of the crime.’ Good job, set designers and constructors!

After a slow start (no fault of anyone’s but the author) the cast grabbed the play and tackled with ease their five different versions of what happened and the flashback to before the murder scene music.

The lighting of the piece was minimal yet effective, and accompanied with the atmospheric music it set the feel of the play perfectly.

I enjoyed all the cast in their parts but especially the characterisations of Kevin Moore (with his tender comic touch) and Hannah Taylor (grown-up adventurer and mischievous spoilt little girl).

I only just worked out whodunit by the end, but had changed my mind several times throughout the night. Overall a great night’s entertainment.
