KEIGHLEY Blues Club members had a fantastic time with a guest called Doris!

Doris it isn’t the real name of the Finnish blues queen who recently headlined the popular club.

But that’s what club regulars decided to call Erja Lyytinen because nobody could pronounce her real name.

As well as performing on stage at the club’s venue, the Cougar Park Hall Of Fame, Erja jammed in the auditorium and chatted with members.

A spokesman said: “Erja wowed the crowd, firstly from the stage where she showcased her latest album The Sky Is Crying, a tribute to slide guitar great Elmore James.

“The diminutive Finlander then wowed the Cougar Park audience by doing an extended walkabout whilst playing, singing and talking, her band keeping exemplary time from the stage even though she was out of sight for over 10 minutes!

“After more than two hours on stage this fabulous four-piece outfit ended the evening with a stunning, never-to-be-bettered 10-minute version of James' Dust My Broom.

“Needless to say, the resultant queue for CDs seemed to snake endlessly around the room as Erja, exhausted but exhilarated, took time to speak to each and every one of her ardent fans.”

Erja, who is touring Europe to promote her latest album, has been hailed as Finland’s ‘Queen of the Slide Guitar’.

For her tenth album Erja, regarded as a ground-breaking artist, has gone back to her blues roots.

She has described the disc as a “raw and down to earth blues album”, co-produced with her guitarist Davide Floreno and musical director Mike Hightower.

A spokesman said: “The Sky Is Crying showcases Erja’s incendiary playing and passionate vocals with her rock solid tour band, with additional contributions from a superb on section and special guests.”

Erja was born in Kuopio, a small town in central Finland, and was raised by a musically-oriented family on the sounds of Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and Deep Purple, while also listening to Madonna and Michael Jackson.

She signed her first record deal in 2001 and has been gigging professionally for more than a decade. She graduated from the prestigious Helsinki Sibelius Academy in 2010.
