WHERE in Keighley could you see wicked queen Maleficent performing Gloria Gaynor’s iconic song I Will Survive?

Keighley’s first burlesque show, along with unusual performances by a host of other weird and wonderful artists.

Hell-raising Halloween was held at Keighley Civic Centre and was organised by Keighley burlesque performer Bobbie Dazzler.

Bobbie, alias Sian Chatfield, described the show – in aid of Manorlands – as a “full-on, no-holds-barred creepfest”.

Bobbie played Sleeping Beauty’s villain Maleficent, as well as performing her trademark burlesque act.

She said her Maleficent, a lip-syncing faux drag act that did not involve stripping, went down well with the audience.

She said: “It’s as weird as it sounds but is funny, and people really got into the lip synced version of I Will Survive!”

Hell-raising Halloween was hosted by Diane Onstage because the original compere April Lindsay had to drop out.

Bobbie said: “The sold-out show was packed to the rafters with eager show goers! All of the acts were brilliant, with beautiful costumes and great music.

“The Civic Centre has never seen a show like this one and the energy from the crowd was immense!”

Bobbie said the Civic Centre’s function room was lit by carved pumpkins, and bar staff provided great table service.

Bobby added: “The show was kicked off by Betsie Baker with her creepy steampunk white rabbit act which gave the room a good idea of what they were going to get!

“There was gasps as Rock Hart did his glass-walking act, in which he uses real smashed-up bottles and not stage glass, and had the compere stand on him when he was lying on the glass.

“The applause for both of Midori Dusk's acts could be heard streets away, and both of the newbie acts Coco Blue Farrari and Tawny Kay rocked the room.”

Bobby said Hell-raising Halloween was so popular, creating a good alternative night out, that she has been invited back to host another show.

Bobbie Dazzler Burlesque Presents Va Va Valentine will be held at the Civic Centre, North Street, on ‘Friday the 13th’ next February.
