TWO ICONS from the 1980s have combined for a UK tour which arrives in Leeds on Sunday.

Hazel O’Connor will perform songs from her back catalogue, along with critically-acclaimed recent material.

Hugh Cornwell promises an “electric” performance combining solo material with classic songs from the Stranglers songbook.

The tour coincides with the release of Hazel’s latest album, Here She Comes.

The award-winning singer-songwriter Hazel O'Connor has teamed up with legendary performers Clare Hirst, saxophonist with Bellestars, Communards and David Bowie, and Eurythmics keyboard player Sarah Fisher.

A spokesman said: “The superb blend of the three voices and musicianship adds a touch of class to their vibrant performance.

“Hazel’s unforgettable songs from the iconic film Breaking Glass including Eighth Day, Will You, Big Brother and If Only seem even more relevant in our present times.”

Cornwell was the original guitarist, singer and main songwriter in the British rock band The Stranglers.

He enjoyed massive success with 10 hit albums and 21 Top 40 singles, including Peaches, No More Heroes, Golden Brown, Nice N’ Sleazy, Always The Sun and Duchess.

Cornwell's latest studio album Totem And Taboo, recorded in Chicago, was released to rave reviews.

Mojo magazine described the album as Cornwell’s “gnarliest record in over 30 years”, while Classic Rock magazine said the former Strangles singer sounded more engaged and intense than he had for a long time.

Hazel and Hugh can be seen at the Wardrobe, Leeds, on Sunday, and Manchester Academy on December 6.

A limited edition double CD recorded during Cornwall’s performance at Vera in Groningen, Holland, will be available exclusively to buy on the UK tour.
