THE THIRD Groovy Happening Christmas party will be in Haworth on Saturday with a host of eclectic acts.

The evening will begin with a presentation of a £1,400 cheque to Manorlands to mark the proceeds of Happenings from the past few months.

Returning to the Happening will be Liam Newton who played his first Groovy night three years ago and has returned several times under different band names.

This time he is solo, playing guitar and singing his own material and covers at the venue, Parkside Social Club in Butt Lane.

Another act returning after several previous visits is Emily Falls, better known to the Groovy audience under their previous name of The Hazbeenz.

Groovy spokesman Ann Wiles said: “Nothing else has changed and they've been working, recording and rehearsing new songs.

“There will be a brilliant performance from four very experienced musicians who have been playing for many years.

“The band is fronted by a female singer, Elli, whose very powerful voice suits their mix of classic rock and blues covers with some new songs.”

DMA will perform old-school Americana Rock, which has grown out of the band’s initial country rock style by combining the sounds of Creedence and Springsteen with the mellower tones of Dylan and John Mayer.

Jacobean Ruff is an electric folk band from Leeds, whose song Family has appeared on several BBC radio stations this year and was also used for the 2013 Visit Yorkshire advert.

The band’s music is described as an exciting pairing of thoughtful, traditional folk styles and clever pop song writing.

Georgia Angus and Ben Fairbairn, both 16, are appearing at Groovy Happening for the first time.

Currently studying music at Shipley College, they are an acoustic act mainly influenced by rock and metal.

There will be the raffle for Manorlands and a disco. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £3 on the door.

There will be a Groovy Happening party on December 31, with Foxes Faux, Radio City and ReubIk. Tickets are £5 on sale at Oates & Wiles, 83 Main Street, Haworth, and Parkside Social Club.
