KEIGHLEY Film Club will this Sunday screen a film about famous politician Tony Benn.

Will And Testament is a documentary about the life of the late Tony Benn before, during and after his parliamentary career.

The film, directed by Skip Kite, sets out to be more than just just a biography, featuring footage, photographs and interviews with family, friends, colleagues and Benn himself.

It takes the audience through the effects of the Second World War, the advent of nuclear weapons, the establishing of the Welfare State and the NHS, Margaret Thatcher’s embracing of capitalism and the death of old Labour.

But the film also displays Benn’s feelings about his family, the world, and how people should be treated.

Keighley Film Club spokesman Alan Watkinson said that as a man of principle, Benn stood shoulder-to-shoulder with others campaigning for social issues.

He said: “The film also reveals how as the Labour Party moved to the right, Benn resisted this and the shallow nature our political culture has become.

“This documentary is a human record of one man who did his best to stick to his principles and by doing so earned the trust of the public.”

Will And Testament be screened at the Picture House, North Street, Keighley, on Sunday from 6pm.
