COMEDIANS aren’t isn’t just for Christmas, they’re for life.

That’s the motto of Chris Brooker, who organises the monthly comedy nights at the Cricketers Arms in Keighley.

He has pledged to provide a year-long antidote to the annual come-down after the festive season.

He said: “It’s possible to feel a bit deflated amidst the drab reality of another 12 months until it's acceptable to eat nothing but meat, cheese and chocolate for a week.

“Fear not however, we have resolved to continue to bring the finest comedians from all around the country to Keighley on the last Thursday of every month.”

The first 2015 comedy night at the Coney Lane pub will be on January 29, with five stand-up comics on offer for the price of a £5 ticket.

Top of the bill is the suave, slick, sharp and satirical Nick Doody, who has been hailed as one of the brightest talents on the comedy circuit.

Chris said: “Nick’s humour veers from dark to light without once missing a beat or failing to reduce an audience to fits of laughter.

“Away from the stage Nick is in huge demand as a writer, his handiwork having been heard on shows as diverse as 8 Out Of 10 Cats, The Now Show and Armado Iannucci's Charm Offensive.

“He is witty, clever, subversive but above all incredibly funny.”

Support will come from Brennan Reece, who is described by Chris as a loveable fresh-faced rogue with a dark streak that runs through his entire set.

There will also be “all manner of mirth” courtesy of Theresa Farlow and Jay Islaaam.

The night will be piloted by Chris, the Cricketers’ resident MC, who said he would be more than happy just to be out of the house after a sparse January.

Tickets are limited, and are available in advance from the pub or from Nana Nellies next to Keighley railway station.
