A HOST of top performers from around the world have been honoured by Laycock blues fans.

But some may have quite a long wait to receive their prizes from the Brontë Blues Club’s annual awards ceremony.

Club officials have to track down singers, musicians and groups who hail from both sides of the Atlantic.

Brontë Blues Club each year vote for their favourite acts from those that have performed at Laycock Village Hall during the previous 12 months.

Club spokesman Maggie Marsden said: “The acts are presented with their awards when and how we can get them to them.

“Michael Ford will be presenting Matt Andersen with his Best Vocalist award 2013 on the legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise in the western Caribbean later this month.”

During the recent 2014 awards the most successful performers were Andy Fairweather Low And The Low Riders, winning every category for which they were nominated.

The whole group took the Best Band award, Andy was voted Best All-Round Entertainer, and his musicians Dave Bronze, Paul Beavis and Nick Penelow took home the Best Bassist, Best Drummer and Best Instrument (Other) awards respectively.

Durham-based band The Revolutionaries landed the Best Dressed Act for the third time, while Ian Siegal added two prizes to the pile of Brontë Blues Awards he has won over the past few years.

Maggie added: “The brilliant Lisa Mills took her first Bronte Blues Award and is the first female vocalist to win Best Vocalist.”
