EXPERIMENTAL British trio Troyka promise rich and enthralling instrumental music during their latest tour.

The group – described as “definitely not your usual Hammond organ trio” – can be seen at Leeds College of Music on February 9.

Troyka comprises Hammond and synth player Kit Downes, a Mercury nominee as a solo artist, Chris Montague on guitar and loops, and Josh Blackmore on drums.

The London three-piece are touring to promote their third studio album Ornithophobia, the first on Naim Jazz Records.

The album, the fruition of five years' worth of musical experimentation, is influenced by the likes of Tim Berne, Aphex Twin, Deerhoof, Albert King and Flying Lotus.

The music is described intense, ambitious and iconoclastic, with catchy and unpredictable melodies woven into complex time signatures.

Amongst the songs there are flavours of polyrhythmic post-dance, haunting trip-hop and atmospheric post-rock.

After self-producing their first two albums, Troyka invited Berlin musician Petter Eldh to produce and mix Ornithophobia.

A spokesman said: “The potency of the electronic and experimental music scene of the German capital positively seeps into Troyka’s creations as a result.”
