ALADDIN is taking to the air at Glusburn Institute this week.

Glusburn Youth Theatre has chosen Aladdin as its family pantomime for this year.

As in past years the show features the ‘flying ballet’ that sees children soar over the stage and auditorium.

The show opened at Glusburn Institute last Sunday (February 15) and continues tonight, tomorrow and Saturday at 7pm, and Saturday at 2pm.

Aladdin features a cast made up entirely of children and young people.

They are performing the classic story of a young boy who sets out for adventure and finds a magic lamp with a genie inside.

The flying ballet has for many years been a highlight of the Glusburn pantomime, with a team of backstage helpers above the stage controlling wires that take the children through the air.

For the past few years the pantomime has been the responsibility of Glusburn Youth Theatre.

The Institute also hosts a monthly film night that in recent weeks has included Educating Rita, White Christmas and Saving Mr Banks.

There are also regular arts and craft fairs, ceilidhs and live music performances at the volunteer-run venue.

The popular Fallfest, an annual weekend of music, arts and crafts, is also centred on the Institute. This year’s Fallfest will be on from September 11 to 13.
