SUTTON actors are appearing in a production of the classic comedy The Hypochondriac in Skipton.

Liam Burnham and Chris Dixon have previously appeared on stage with Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre Company.

They are next week performing with Skipton Little Theatre in Roger McGough’s translation of Molière’s 17th-century play.

The play is directed by Chris Birch who has also played leading roles in Sutton.

The Hypochondriac is described as a scathingly funny lampoon on both hypochondria and the ‘quack’ medical profession.

Chris said: “Argan is a perfectly healthy, wealthy gentleman, convinced he is seriously ill.

“So obsessed is he with medical tinkerings and tonics that he is blind to the goings-on in his own household.

“However, his most effective cure will not appear in a bottle or a bedpan, but in his sharp-tongued servant, who has a cunning plan to reveal the truth and open her master's eyes.”

Molière was inspired to write his final play The Hypochondriac after suffering a persistent hacking cough.

The Hypochondriac runs from Tuesday (February 24) to Saturday at 7.30pm.
