Judy The Song Book Of Judy Garland – Bradford Alhambra

THIS EXCELLENT show took us back to the heady year of 1939, with equal share of magic and mystery – Wuthering Heights with Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier, The Wizard Of Oz with Judy Garland, Gone With The Wind with Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable, and the declaration of the Second World War.

The show’s publicity flyer welcomed the audience to the UK premiere of a “breathtaking show” highlighting the legendary life and career of Judy Garland.

It was created in arrangement with the Judy Garland estate and is the only officially recognised Judy Garland show in the world.

The flyer said: “We are proud to take you on a a magical musical journey through the songs that made Judy a legend in showbusiness history.

“We will bring you the never-before-seen film highlights and interviews, and bring Judy’s dazzling songbook to life on stage with our award-winning cast.

“Our special guest is Judy’s daughter Lorna Luft, who will lead the way through this remarkable show.”

Well, she does indeed. She is a very image of her mother, physically and vocally admirably supported by Ray Quinn, Louise Dearman and Judy’s excellent dancers, The Boyfriends.

All the famous songs are there, concluding inevitably with Somewhere Over The Rainbow taken from the film itself as the cast take their bows on stage, unable perhaps emotionally to cope with it.
