ALISON Murchison is not the sort of girl that you might visualise as a heroine.

But she becomes one in Wedding Of The Year, the last production of the current season from Keighley Playhouse.

Alison’s Uncle Frank decides to enter her as a prospective candidate for a Wedding Of The Year competition, selecting a designer to create her wedding dress even before he has found her a suitable husband.

Frank’s eye falls on Melvyn, a frustrated inventor and an appallingly clumsy young man whose creations tend to fail in spectacularly dangerous ways.

But as the 10-strong cast play out the story, the audience may be surprised who carries off who to the altar.

Along the way there is chaos at the local pub and an unlucky series of accidents.

Previous audiences have “laughed merrily” at the play, from popular comedy playwright Norman Robbins.

There have been around 300 productions of the play worldwide.

Wedding Of The Year will run from June 22 to 27 at Keighley Playhouse in Devonshire Street. Tickets cost from £5 to £7. Call 07599 890769 to book tickets.
