A FOUNDER member of north-east folk-rock legends Lindisfarne will appear at Keighley Blues Club on June 12.

He will co-headline the concert at Cougar Park’s Hall of Fame bar with fellow Lindisfarne member Ian Thomson, with Isaac Taylor providing support.

Rod Clements is notable for contributing a bluesy element to the original Lindisfarne sound.

His subsequent solo work featured a distinctly bluesy style, epitomised by Rod’s versions of classic Lindisfarne numbers such as Train In G Major.

His latest album Rendezvous Cafe features Rod playing slide and acoustic guitar, accompanied by Ian Thomson on double bass, and according to critics the album has a fabulous laid-back, late-night bluesy feel to it.

Rod is also considered bluesy enough for Blues In Britain magazine to review his most recent CD, with critic Dave Scott describing it as being “so much more than an album; it is a lifetime achievement”.

Ray Laidlaw, Lindisfarne’s original drummer, said he first heard the band’s classic songs as acoustic versions played by Rod Clements.

A spokesman said: “One of British folk-rock’s true originals, Rod is a man who has seen it all and lived to tell the tale.

“He is the writer of Meet Me On The Corner and sidekick of Bert Jansch, Ralph McTell and Michael Chapman.

“He will draw from a clutch of critically-acclaimed solo albums and a back catalogue of classics to create an evening of spine-tingling guitar, heartfelt vocals and dry humour.”

Isaac Tyler is described as “Keighley's own number one 18-year-old singer/songwriter” who has a great future.

Keighley Blues Club will welcome the Mud Morganfield Band back to Keighley on July 10 to finish the club's 10th anniversary season.

The concert will celebrate the life of “probably the greatest and most influential blues man of all time”, Muddy Waters.

Mud and his star-studded five-piece band will commemorate the 100th birthday of Muddy, Mud's father.

A spokesman said: “Mud plays charismatic Chicago blues, his big, powerful voice conveying deep emotional resonance on the slow numbers and good old-fashioned testosterone-laden strut on those classic shuffles.”

Support will come from Roger Higgins and Gary Boyle with acoustic slide guitar and relaxed singing.
