Jeeves And Wooster In Perfect Nonsense– Leeds Grand
DON’T GO to see this play about the young aristocrat and his unflappable valet expecting some croaky old period piece.
You’re going to laugh your socks off, almost every second, with a comedy that’s as fresh as sliced lemon while at the same time timeless.
It’s in the clever, crowd-pleasing mould of One Man Two Guvnors, The Play That Went Wrong and The 39 Steps, bursting with inventive visual gags, sharp dialogue and intricately-choreographed slapstick set pieces.
The play takes the mickey out of the famous duo while remaining true to PG classic characters and stories.
Perfect Nonsense is a loose adaptation of one of Wodehouse’s novels about irrepressible young toff Bertie Wooster and the manservant who repeatedly extricating from sticky situations.
Bertie has visited Leeds Grand to tell us about his latest adventure in high society, acting it out with the help of Jeeves and doddery butler Seppings, both playing several characters, including women.
The story is of course terribly convoluted, combining blackmail, romantic intrigues and a stolen ornament, but it’s simply a vehicle for non-stop hilarity.
