Steeton Male Voice Choir celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1957 because for many years people believed it was formed in 1907.

Archivist Peter lofts eventually proved that the date of the choir’s formation was February 3 the following year, though the men involved had sung together informally in previous months.

In more than 100 years the choir has had only four conductors and musical directors, namely Hume Wrathall, Arthur Wilson, John Smith and the current leader Alan Clark.

The choir now performs around 25 times a year in venues ranging from tiny chapels and churches to magnificent cathedrals, concert halls and arenas.
