RHYTHM Of The Dance is coming to Halifax to showcase exhilarating Celtic steppers.

There will be both original and classic Irish songs, and magical and mystical music, in the show at the Victoria Theatre.

The show has been created by the National Dance Company of Ireland, and will feature the Young Irish Tenors.

Rhythm Of The Dance aims to celebrate the rich history of Ireland, and the art of Irish dance.

The dances will range from the disciplined tradition of the Celtic Step, to the sensual moves of the Sean Nos dance, rooted solely in the ancient island of Innishbofin near Galway.

There will be 30 dancers, a traditional live full Irish band, and the “dashing and handsome” Young Irish Tenors.

The musicians will play a collection of rare and haunting musical instruments, like the Celtic Bouzouki, the Cittern, the Octave mandolin, the melodeon (Irish accordion), Tea whistle and Pennywhistle flutes, century-old harps, banjos, fiddles, guitars and various hand drums.

A spokesman said most of the cast been performing since they were young children, and were perfectly placed to tap and stomp out the beats of a thousand years of Gaelic history.

She said: “It is a history that has become a well-chronicled story - a country reared on hardship, famine, oppression, and the misty gloom of struggle.

“But today’s Ireland has a lively buzz about it. In the midst of hardship, something wonderful has happened. A sense of regaining something lost.

“Restaurants are packed again. Pubs overflow onto the streets. Gaelic appears on every road sign. And music is once more in the air.“

Rhythm Of The Dance aims to celebrate this renewed vigor in Irish culture, embracing the traditional and the current, by presenting unique dance, song, and musical performances.

Rhythm Of The Dance will be performed on July 16. Visit victoriatheatre.co.uk or call 01422 351158 to book tickets.
