NOW That’s What I Call Music 91

IT’S ALWAYS hard to know what to say about a new Now album.

Most people will know whether to buy it or not after running their eyes down the track listing on the back of the CD case.

I’m a bit different – I like modern chart songs of many genres but, from hearing snatches on radio or TV, rarely know the titles or even the artists.

I need to listen to the twin CDs a couple of times before deciding whether this is a great, good or get-lost entry in the long-running series.

In my opinion Now 91 is somewhere in the middle: I’ve found myself playing disc one quite a few times, but disc two, dominated by fairly mundane dance tracks, requires effort to return to.

Disc one begins with Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You from the film Fifty Shades Of Grey and proceeding energetic style with tracks like See You Again, Want To Want Me, Black Magic and the love-it-or-hate-it (I love it) Cheerleader.

The disc features the poptastic likes of Little Mix, Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea, Jessie J and Clay Rae Jepson, and there’s another irresistably catchy entry from Meghan Trainor with Dear Future Husband.

Over on the other side of the case we have a great start with Are You With Me, Firestone, House Every Weekend and Hey Mama, but as we continue deeper into 22 tracks it’s clear the home of some tracks is the nightclub not the living room.

Disc one, meanwhile, is ideal for blasting out while driving the car.

All in all, the CD offers 44 hits and seven number one singles.
