PLEASURE is the title of a new chamber opera due to performed in Leeds on April 28.
Pleasure has been created by young composer Mark Simpson and writer Melanie Challenger and will receive its world premiere from Opera North.
The show is a family tragedy in a hedonistic gay nightclub in the north presided over by the drag queen Anna Fewmore.
Val, played by Lesley Garrett, is a toilet attendant who over the years has been both a shoulder to cry on and a confidante.
Val is much-loved but is viewed as an enigma. Why is she still there? Why does she never leave?
When Nathan, a beautiful and unpredictable young man, arrives in Pleasure and leaves a gift for Val, it marks the beginning of an emotional and violent night.
Pleasure, which is 80 minutes long, will be performed by a cast of four singers at the Howard Assembly Room in Leeds.
