GHOST walker and local history writer Malcolm Hanson has returned to the recording studio for the first time in 30 years.

The one-time rock musician has finally recorded songs he composed while a member of local band The Enid in 1978.

Event organiser Malcolm, the recently-retired chairman of Keighley Festival, performed in Keighley bands including rock gods Dawnwatcher.

He said: “They are songs that would complement a musical, fully-orchestrated, with vibrant melodies and strong libretto.

”I have been pleasantly surprised to see that while my instrumental skills have obviously diminished having not played regularly for many years, my composition skills are as strong as ever and I am coming up with some gripping stuff.

”A new musical would be a great ‘bucket list’ wish come true!”

Malcolm is now looking for male and female singers to perform one of his songs, You Don’t Realise How Lonely It Can Be.

He recorded the songs at Hideaway Studios in Bradford, where engineer Andy Wells, more used to recording rock songs, was complimentary of Malcolm’s Broadway-type numbers and compared them to Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Malcolm added: " I am finding it all not only inspirational, but educational too. Andy is teaching me to orchestrate songs properly, so after a session I can go home and re-score the next one.

“Andy is so good that at the end of the day it sounds like we've got the New York Philharmonic in the studio!"
