ROMANTIC drama Ring Round The Moon is the latest production from Bingley Little Theatre.

The production is Christopher Fry's adaptation of French dramatist Jean Anouilh’s play L’Invitation Au Chateau, and calls to mind both Restoration comedy and Italian commedia dell’arte.

It was performed in English in 1950 with Peter Brook as producer and starring Paul Schofield and Claire Bloom.

Set against the background of a grand ball, the play tells the story of Hugo, a calculating and manipulative figure.

He tries to lure his twin brother Frederick into a love-trap by enlisting a young, poor and beautiful dancer to draw him away from his unsuitable fiancée.

This is simply the trigger for a tissue of complication, intrigue and the law of unintended consequences, made delightful through the vivacity of the characters and the comic energy of the performances.

Director Robin Martin said: “Under an enchanting moon, in a dazzling garden, we can all escape for an evening into the magic world of fascinating characters ‘dancing’ out their stories.

Robin’s cast includes well-known names from local theatre including Bruce Sturrock, Carol Southby, Lorraine Taylor-Parker and Peter Whitley, as well as some new faces.

Ring Round The Moon runs from December 7 to 12 from 7.30pm at Bingley Arts Centre. Call 01274 567983 or visit ticketsource.co.uk/bingley-artscentre to book tickets.
