X FACTOR winner Alexandra Burke stars in the musical version of 1990s film hit The Bodyguard at Leeds Grand.

The show, making a return to West Yorkshire after its appearance at Bradford Alhambra last year, is based on Lawrence Kasdan’s 1992 Oscar-nominated film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.

Alexandra performs opposite Stuart Reid as they play the lead roles of Rachel Marron and Frank Farmer.

Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker.

Each expects to be in charge -- what they don’t expect is to fall in love.

A romantic thriller, the Bodyguard features classic songs like Queen Of The Night, So Emotional, One Moment In Time, Saving All My Love, I’m Your Baby Tonight, Run to You, I Have Nothing, and I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

Of course there is the key song from the film, one of the biggest selling songs of all time, I Will Always Love You.

Ian Sime, general manager of the Grand Theatre, said: “We are excited to welcome Alexandra and The Bodyguard to Leeds.

“It promises to be a dazzling show with a great soundtrack performed by a wonderful singer! We’re very much looking forward to it.”

The Grand Theatre hosts a classic musical director from the West End, Guys And Dolls, from May 24 to 28, starring Richard Fleeshman and Maxwell Caulfield.

Save The Last Dance For Me, a musical from the same team as nostalgic 60s hit Dreamboats And Petticoats, will be staged from June 13 to 18.

The show tells what happens after teenage girl on her holidays meets an airman from the local US base.

The show features songs like A Teenager In Love, Sweets For My Sweet, Little Sister, Suspicion and Count Get Used To Losing You.

The Bodyguard is at Leeds Grand from Tuesday to Saturday May 10 to 21. Visit leedsgrandtheatre.com or call 0844 8482700 to book tickets for all three shows.
