BRASSY performances and brazen lyrics are promised by Keighley duo Felka as they help premiere a new Bradford music night.

The female acoustic duo are heading down the valley after success at Keighley and Haworth venues with their collection of harmony-packed original songs.

They will perform at the first Live At THE1875 night at THE1875 bar on Ivegate.

A spokesman said: “Bradford is seeing a return to its former glory as a live music and entertainment hub - and the latest addition to the fast growing circuit is THE1875.

“Having made waves around Yorkshire and beyond over just one year, Felka are inspiring audiences with their signature songs - a mix of folk, soul and pop sounds.”

Also performing during the first is 1970s-style folk guitarist Henry Parker, who performed in April at the regular Blues and Roots night at the Black Bull in Haworth.

Henry, from Bingley, is rooted in the sound of 70s folk guitar and recalls musicians like John Renbourn, Dick Gaughan and Martin Simpson.

Henry’s performances incorporate traditional folk song, original instrumentals and solo arrangements, both traditional and modern.

Black Bull gig organiser Ben Blue Waters said Henry’s songs were bound together by his creative and distinctive finger-style approach, with a new influence of leading jazz players.

Sharing the bill at THE1875 is American singer-songwriter Doug Nissley, who is now based in Wakefield and plays country, indie, folk, rock and blues styles on his guitar, mandolin and bass.

Live At THE1875 will make its debut on May 27 at 8pm.

Meanwhile, Tuesday evenings at 8pm in the venue will see Sessions @THE 1875 hosted by Malcolm and Maggie from the music shop Mannings Musicals.

THE1875 has standing capacity for 800 people at its music events and has already hosted a Bollywood/RnB/Bangra night last month.

Owner Manjinder Sarai said: “Our aim is to provide an indie 'Music Heaven' at the heart of Bradford City Centre for talented musicians, singers, dancers and other artists.

“We already have many more talented musicians and bands lined-up for the forthcoming months and we hope everyone will come along and show their appreciation for these talented acts.”
