The Last Tango – Leeds Grand

I WAS unsure what to expect from a show solely focused on dance but, drawing on my dim and distant ballroom dancing lessons and my love of Strictly Come Dancing, I was looking forward to the latest offering from Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace.

And what a treat it was. This is like a musical fused with a silent movie. The Last Tango shows George going through his attic and the memories it stirs up.

These memories are portrayed through the spectacular dancing of Vincent, Flavia and the ensemble.

During act one we see their journey from their first meeting, the proposal, wedding and honeymoon to the heart wrenching moment when the young George (Vincent) is enlisted into the army.

Act two continues with more ups, downs and the joys of life, family and friendship with a somewhat untimely yet poignant end.

The music proved breathtaking, really setting off the dancing. Some of the more upbeat numbers included vocals from the ensemble that were tuneful and really captured the mood.

Fabulous. Definitely one to watch.
