KEIGHLEY and Sutton youth drama groups have been welcoming a rep from a leading national arts organisation.

The National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA), a major umbrella body for theatre groups, last year appointed Jo Sykes as its youth advisor for the north-east region.

Jo’s task is to work closely with youth theatres and junior sections of amateur operatic groups to encourage children and young people to take to the stage.

Jo, herself an experienced performer, recently accompanied NODA’s local rep Sally Holmes to watch the spring show by Oakworth-based youth theatre KYDZ.

She wrote a glowing review of the musical play, See No Evil, for the NODA website, and praised the young members for their heavy involvement in scriptwriting, choreography, directing and other aspects of production.

Jo will soon return to the area to spend an evening with the Laffia, the junior section of Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre Company.

She will get hands-on experience of the regular activities as she joins the children in drama games and improvisation.

Jo has been a member the St Giles Panto Society in Pontefract since the age of 11 and has played principal parts for the last 28 years. Her husband and daughter are also involved in the group.
