CHARLOTTE Brontë is alive and well and preparing to read from her work in Haworth.

Little Red Hen Theatre will bring the famous author back to her home village as part of the 200th anniversary celebrations of her birth.

An Evening With Charlotte Brontë will feature actress Prudence Edwards bringing to life the woman’s fiction, poetry and letters.

The 70-minute one-woman play, devised and performed by Prudence, will particularly feature extracts from Charlotte’s masterpiece Jane Eyre.

Prudence said: “The show gives the audience a glimpse into the mind of a genius.”

Premiered in 2006, An Evening With Charlotte Brontë show has been performed many times around the north-west, most notably at the Buxton Festival Fringe in 2013.

Prudence added: “Little Red Hen Theatre has had a long-held ambition to perform the show in Haworth, close to the Parsonage, where many of her famous words were penned.

“We are also hugely excited to be part of the Brontë 200 celebrations.”

An Evening With Charlotte Brontë will be performed at West Lane Baptist Centre, Haworth, on July 15 and 16 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £8 (£7 for concessions) and are available by visiting eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-with-charlotte-bronte-tickets, calling 07971 136509 or on the door.

The 200th anniversary celebrations for Charlotte make up the first year of a five-year programme entitled Brontë 200.

Future years will celebrate the births of Charlotte’s siblings Emily, Anne and Branwell, and the 200th year since their father Patrick Brontë was invited to become the Haworth clergyman.

The Brontë Society has organised dozens of events throughout this year at both the Brontë Parsonage Museum and other Haworth venues.

The museum is opening until 8pm on the third Thursday of every month, including June 16 and July 21, when visitors can experience the historic rooms with friends, family or as part of a larger group.

The late nights include one-off events and Meet The Maker sessions with artists who are this year working with the museum’s retail team.

There are also monthly events at 7.30pm entitled Parsonage Unwrapped, allowing enthusiasts to delve deeper into the’s and its collection.

Parsonage Unwrapped will on June 24 mark the 199th anniversary Branwell’s birth with ‘Us Two’, exploring the close creative relationship between Charlotte and her younger brother.

Tickets cost £15 (£12 concessions), including a glass of wine, and places are limited.
