KEIGHLEY people can watch top-line Shakespearean drama this month at the same time as audiences in London.

The Picture House in North Street is presenting live screenings of new stage productions of Romeo And Juliet and Richard III.

The star-studded presentations will be followed by a screening of internationally-renowned conductor Andre Rieu’s 2016 Maastricht concert on the evening of July 23.

The first event on July 7 at 7.15pm will be the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company’s production of Shakespeare’s Romeo And Juliet.

The classic tragedy depicts the longstanding feud between Verona’s Montague and Capulet families which brings about devastating consequences for two young lovers caught in the conflict.

Kenneth Branagh co-directs with Rob Ashford, reuniting with the stars of his Disney live-action film of Cinderella, Richard Madden and Lily James. Derek Jacobi will star as Mercutio.

The Almeida Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s Richard III will be broadcast on July 21 with Ralph Fiennes playing Richard and Vanessa Redgrave playing Queen Margaret.

Picture House proprietor Charles Morris said: “It’s great to be starting a new series of live broadcasts.

“We’ve been equipped for some time but it takes quite a bit of planning to fit them in round our normal programming, due to the constraints put on us by the film distributors.

“We hope to put on many more in the future. It is a great opportunity for people to see these productions concurrently with their performance in London, or wherever; and considerably cheaper too.

“In fact it is a better experience in many respects, as professional cameramen are involved and it is possible to see close-up shots which you cannot get in the actual theatre.”

Tickets for each screening cost £15 for adults, £12 for concessions, by visiting nm-cinemas.co.uk or in person from the cinema.
