ACOUSTIC blues artist Charlie Parr will promote his latest album Stumpjumper with a gig at the Wharf Chambers in Leeds on August 11.
Charlie, a long-time member of the music scene in the Minnesota city of Duluth, travelled to North Carolina to record the album in a rural outbuilding.
The result is described as percussive and raw, with blistering picking on his acoustic guitar, dobro and banjo, and a cut-through-the-crowd vocals resonating with a conviction that runs deep and true.
A spokesman said: “It's the music of a self-taught guitarist and banjo player who grew up listening to his dad's recordings of America's musical founding fathers, including Charley Patton and Lightnin' Hopkins, Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly.
“His heartfelt and plaintive original folk blues and traditional spirituals don't strive for authenticity, they are authentic.”
