THE PIRATE kids of Oakworth are back on dry land – and they’re looking for new members of the crew!

KYDZ Keighley Youth Theatre is holding a recruitment drive to join existing youngsters as they to start work on their next show.

The 16 existing members last month presented musical adventure Pirates Of Treasure Island for two nights at Oakworth Methodist Church.

The show, like most KYDZ productions, was written by leaders and cast, and offered a fresh spin on the classic novel Treasure Island with orphan runaways, a talking dodo and a girl pirate captain.

The youth theatre, whose members range from nine to 17 years old, now need to supplement their numbers following the departure of long-time members for university.

KYDZ have just celebrated their 10th anniversary year with three shows at the church, where they also rehearse on Thursday evenings.

On October 1 they will perform a concert of songs from the pop charts and musicals, supplemented by a handful of comedy sketches.

Then they go on to prepare to original musical-theatre productions for performances next March and July.

Anyone interested in their children joining KYDZ should email david.knights@kydztheatre.co.uk, call 07768 964110, or visit the group’s Facebook page by typing KYDZ Keighley's Youth Theatre into the search box.
