BINGLEY band 69 are looking for more Keighley venues following the success of their first two gigs in the town.

The trio of Sixties musicians have bought their blues-rock sound bang up-to-date following their live debut at the Octagon early this summer.

That first gig was peppered with songs by 60s hit makers Love Affair – whose musician Mick Jackson plays in 69 – and other chart classics.

But for their second gig, at the Exchange Arts Centre in Keighley, they devoted their performance to newly-written numbers.

The band said the Exchange, in Russell Street, was a great venue and the audience really liked the two sets they played.

A spokesman said: “This concert was a bit of a musical departure from some of the more pop-type Love Affair hits we played at the Octagon.

“It was the right decision as the sets really worked hard on our Blues Rock style. The audience, which was made up of a much higher proportion of music aficionados, seemed to love it .

“We got numerous kind comments and great feedback following the gig. One guy actually made us promise that we would return and play there again!”

69 played new single Another Way To Die, the theme song from James Bond film Die Another Day, as the opening number.

A spokesman said: “That really set the scene for a rocking night! Our other new number Tobacco Road also got a great reception.

“We closed the opening set with our version of Voodoo Chile made famous by Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and now our very own Dave Johnson.

“I think this got the biggest cheer of the night.”

And are now working on new numbers for the next gig, mixing their own compositions with new arrangements of blues rock songs from the archives.

The spokesman said: “We are also planning our growth and expansion into other regional venues and considering festivals for 2017.”

They are also seeking venues around the Keighley and Haworth area and promise “a great energetic night of quality blues rock”.
