SINGING for Dancing sessions will start in Skipton next week.

Singing for Dancing is a group for people who like singing and would enjoy using the music they make to accompany simple dances.

The songs will cover a wide range, from well loved pop classics to folk music and early music.

All the music will be taught by ear; there is no requirement to 'read' music, but anyone who wants to use notation is welcome to.

The singing will be led by Sue Jackson, whom many people will know from her popular Just Sing sessions in Skipton.

The dances will be designed specifically for the session, and will be based on well known ceilidh dances.

They will be suitable for all ages and abilities. This part of the afternoon will be led by Barbara Bentley, an experienced local caller.

Barbara, who is also one of the group’s leaders, said: “Singing and dancing are both very enjoyable activities, and we are looking forward to combining them in this way.”

The sessions begin on Wednesday in the small hall at Christ Church, on Cross Street, and will start at 2pm.

The first session is free for everybody.

Further up into the Yorkshire Dales, Grassington Town Hall will host a concert by the Grassington Singers on Sunday, September 25 at 3pm.

The concert, entitled Inspiration, will feature well-known American songs and spirituals and will be conducted by Nicholas Hewlett, with Sally Goodman performing solos.
