HIT MOVIE Bridge Of Spies will be screened at Glusburn Institute on Friday, October 7.

Tom Hanks and Mike Rylance star in the 2015 historical legal thriller which was directed by Steven Spielberg.

The film is based on the notorious 1960 U-2 incident during the Cold War when spy plane pilot Gary Powers was shot down over the Soviet Union.

It tells the story of lawyer James B Donovan, who was entrusted with negotiating Powers’ release in exchange for Rudolf Abel, a captive and convicted Soviet KGB spy held under the custody of the United States, whom he represented at trial.

The name of the film refers to the Glienicke Bridge, which connects Potsdam with Berlin, where the spy exchange took place.

The film was internationally co-produced by the United States and Germany.

Bridge Of Spies is being screened as part of the Cine North season, delivered by the National Media Museum in Bradford.

Cine North provides films for community cinemas in 46 villages and towns, ranging from home-grown independent films and documentaries to family favourites and box office hits.

The aim is to improve access to cinema in isolated rural and hard to reach urban areas of the North of England.

The film will begin at 7.30pm. Visit glusburn.institute or call 01535 630223 for further information.
