FOLK ROCK pioneers Steeleye Span take their new live show to King’s Hall in Ilkley, on Tuesday October 18.

Over the past six decades the group has become a legendary name in British music after combining rock and folk.

Contemporaries of Led Zeppelin and Fairport Convention, they took folk music from small clubs and festivals to the world of chart-topping albums and international tours.

Steeleye Span has provided a home for a long list of some of the world’s finest musicians.

The current line-up still includes singer Maddy Prior, and the ’old boys’ include Martin Carthy, John Kirkpatrick and Bob Johnson.

Last year saw the release of The Essential Steeleye Span, drawn from their 20 years on the Park Records label, while new album The Essential Steeleye Span: Catch Up follows the recent history.

This includes 1996’s Time up to their Wintersmith collaboration with the late Sir Terry Pratchett, and includes rare and unreleased material.

This year the band played leading festivals Ramblin Man and Copredy, to huge acclaim, and have since been writing and recording songs for a new album.
