ILKLEY-born actor Philip Duguid-McQuillan is returning to district with a leading role in a new post-apocalyptic play.

Following his leading role in the touring play Jumpers For Goalposts he appears in new drama North Country.

The show, from Bradford-based Freedom Studios, will be in the city’s new venue The Wild Woods from Wednesday, October 26 to November 5.

North Country follows Freedom Studios similar ‘site-specific’ productions The Mill City Of Dreams, in Bradford’s disused Drummond Mills, Home Sweet Home performed at the city’s Ukrainian Centre, and most recently Brief Encounters At Bradford Interchange.

North Country, written by Tajinder Singh Heyer, explores the lives of three young people from Bradford as they deal with the aftermath of a devastating plague.

It shows how over the next 40 years, they reshape themselves and their communities within the city.

The venue is The Wild Wood, the former Marks and Spencer store in Darley Street, in the centre of Bradford.

Philip performs with Bradford actors Natalie Davies, who played school bully Shelley in Coronation Street, and Kamal Kaan.

Director Alex Chisholm said: “North Country is about Bradford now and what it could be in the future.

“It examines what happens to people and communities under stress, what it does to people’s identities and what happens when these communities come in contact with each other.

“In the journey from old to new world, what does each person chose to keep of their culture, and what has to be thrown away?”
