FOLK MUSIC fans will be treated to Jim Moray as part of a new season at Square Chapel Centre for the Arts.

The performer will be at the newly-revitalised Halifax venue on March 12, following an appearance by award-winning folk group Three Cane Whale on February 12.

The artists perform as part of the first season in the Square Chapel’s new £6.6m building.

The arts centre has introduced ‘Pay What You Can’ for some of its shows, allowing audiences to take a risk on something new.

Square Chapel have teamed up with Little Might and Unfolding Theatre to present Putting the Band Back Together on February 9, when Ross Millard (The Futureheads), Maria Crocker (The Letter Room) and Alex Elliott (Northern Stage) reveal epic emotions within people’s relationships with music.

The audience are invited to join in during the gig-theatre show.

April in Paris, staged on March 17 and 18, is described as a John Godber comedy classic, a touching and sweet story, with moments of poignancy and a big dose of northern humour.

The Arc from Stockton are bringing their powerful show Butterfly to the Square Chapel on March 16 to raise awareness of mental health.

The “clever, funny and dark piece of storytelling” is not about suffering from, or surviving a condition, it’s about history, stigma, understanding and misrepresentations.

Join the Beacon Actors, a group of young Calderdale actors, on March 9 for The Edelweiss Pirates, a play about Germany 1943 when a small group of young people form themselves into societies.

The Edelweiss Pirates had the courage to stand up to the regime even though they might have to pay a terrible price for their convictions.
