We're Going On A Bear Hunt
King's Hall, Ilkley
WE'RE Going On A Bear Hunt, we're going to catch a big one, what a beautiful day, we're not scared... well, perhaps just a little bit!
Based on Michael Rosen’s award-winning book and direct from a smash-hit West End season and
international tour, We’re Going On A Bear Hunt is a modern classic and one we have delighted sharing with our two-year-old daughter.
Having read the book and watched the TV version, we couldn't wait to see the stage adaptation.
After getting our heads round a few key changes as part of director Sally Cookson's production (dad also goes on the hunt and the incredibly talented dog plays an impressive range of musical instruments), we were immersed in the wonderful set changes, from the swishy, swashy grass all the way to the bear's cave.
Audience interaction also helped bring the book to life, with the squirting of water pistols used to generate the sensation of splashing through the river.
Even the bear got in on the act, wiggling his furry bottom at a startled front row.
Full credit to the energetic cast for racing round the stage with boundless enthusiasm to keep the little ones transfixed throughout.
We couldn't go under or over the play, so we had to go through it! And what an amazing journey it was!
