FOLK singer Martha Tilston will be playing Huddersfield on April 28 as she travels north from her West Country home.

Martha, daughter of long-time Keighley singer-songwriter Steve Tilston, will play the town’s Parish on the first night of her 12-date UK tour.

She will travel the country promoting newly-released album, Nomad, following a long spring tour of Australia.

Martha, who was nominated for best newcomer in the BBC Folk Awards for her album, Milkmaids And Architects, is renowned for a stunning voice and inspiring lyrics.

She has appeared as a guest vocalist for Zero 7, toured globally and played with the some of the world’s best musicians.

Also an actor, Martha has appeared as part of the live collective Small World Solar Stage and performed with Damien Rice.

Her subject material ranges from digs at corporate power to the dullness of office life.

Some songs tackle big political issues, such as The Saddest Game, which deals with child soldiers in Africa.
