SUTTON audiences will be taken to the West End next month in the latest show from the village’s theatre group.

Adults and children from the Green Hut Theatre Company are presenting Magic of the Musicals for two nights at Sutton Village Hall.

The show is packed with hits from Broadway and West End shows old and new, and has been organised in place of the group’s traditional spring musical.

They range from famous cowboy musicals like Calamity Jane and Oklahoma!, through classics like My Fair Lady and Hello Dolly!, to modern shows like Back to the 80s, All Shook Up and Boogie Nights.

Younger members of the society will perform songs from recent West End hit Matilda, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s dramatic Whistle Down The Wind, and perennial favourite Annie.

The Magic of the Musicals cast is made up of regulars from Sutton’s shows including several who have played leading roles in previous musicals.

For the first time they will be joined on stage by a group of children from Sutton’s Green Hut Youth Theatre. In previous years members have joined other local children in the Green Hut pantomime and some have had small roles in the spring musical.

Regular Sutton director Bryan Blackie and musical director David Boddy have been joined in the production team by David Weale, who is also music directing, and choreographer Lara Marsh.

Dance graduate and trainee teacher Lara, who lives in Cross Hills, has previously choreographed pantomimes for Glusburn Youth Theatre. David Weale is also a musical director with Skipton Musical Theatre.

The latest show will begin with a cowboy medley including songs like Windy City, There’s No Business like Showbusiness and Black Hills of Dakota.

The performers will remain in the past, traversing the Atlantic for songs like Blow Gabriel Blow, Wouldn’t It Be Loverly, I’m Getting Married In The Morning, A Little Bit of Luck and Anything Goes.

Then it’s a supercharged journey through recent decades with songs like We Are The World, All Shook Up, Kids in America and Blame It on the Boogie.

Magic of the Musicals will be performed at Sutton Village Hall on April 7 and 8, from 7.15pm, with a licensed bar. Tickets cost £7 by calling 01535 632289.
