RISING young folk band The Trials Of Cato will headline the Baccapipes Folk Club in Keighley on April 21.

The band were formed in Beirut, Lebanon, in the summer of 2015 and spent their first year performing traditional music on the Lebanese music scene.

Following their debut at Radio Beirut in September 2015, they went on to regularly fill some of Beirut’s foremost venues and played at music festivals around the country.

The band regularly collaborated with local musicians from around the Middle East.

The three musicians returned to the UK in the autumn of 2016 and have since recorded a self-titled debut EP.

Sung in English and Welsh, the tracks feature tales of disillusioned soldiers, Middle Eastern adventures and doomed geese, and whilst the instrumentation is rooted in the folk traditions of Ireland and Britain, the source material is decidedly contemporary.

The Trials of Cato use acoustic instruments, driving rhythms and rousing vocal harmonies to achieve a musical presence blending old with new.

The gig is at 8pm at Keighley Ukrainian Club, 9 Henry Street, off Cavendish Street.
