HI-DE-HI! will be the greeting from Sutton actors this autumn as they revive a hit TV sitcom.

The Green Hut Theatre Company will bring to the stage the 1980s comedy set on a British holiday camp during the early 1960s.

The original show, filmed on a real holiday camp, was written by Dad’s Army creators Jimmy Perry and David Croft and ran for several years.

The title was the greeting the campers heard from the Yellowcoats and other entertainers who featured in the comic stories.

The series gained large audiences and won a BAFTA as Best Comedy Series in 1984.

TV watchers loved characters such as well-meaning entertainment manager Jeffrey Fairbrother, naive but kind-hearted camp comic Spike Dixon, chalet maid Peggy, wheeler-dealing Ted Bovis and man-mad chief Yellowcoat Gladys Pugh

The Green Hut Theatre Company first presented Hi-de-Hi! eight years ago as part of a successful run of classic TV sitcoms that also included ‘Allo, ‘Allo, and Are You Being Served?.

Preparations will begin on Monday, April 24 at 7.30pm, with a get-together for anyone interested in taking part, at the theatre company’s green hut behind Costcutters in Main Street, Sutton.

Everyone is welcome to go along, learn about the parts and pick up audition pieces. Email suttongreenhuttheatre@gmail.com or call 07897 247733 for further information.
