THE VALUABLE work of a Sutton arts and crafts group has been highlighted by its chairman.

Kate Fulton this week told how Craven Mosaic and Craft Group helped a wide range of vulnerable people, on the eve of its annual general meeting.

The group will hold a meeting on Thursday April 27 at 1pm at its regular meeting place of Sutton Cricket Club.

The group caters for adults who experience mental and physical disabilities, depression, anxiety and social isolation issues.

Volunteers aim to provide a welcoming, relaxing and supportive environment enabling users to create small mosaics and other craft.

Drop-in meetings are held on Thursdays from 12.30pm to 3pm and no experience is necessary. Sessions cost £2 including materials.

Kate said the “friendly” group worked to improve people’s self-esteem and wellbeing through the creative therapy of crafts.

She said the aim was to see new friendships forged and new projects created, inspiring members to have the confidence to engage in the local community.

She added: “Life for many of us can be stressful and challenging. Mental Health is often overlooked in society and within the home.

“There is a real need within the community to offer a way of dealing with and healing our emotional wellbeing. Our group is a small step in offering a solution to this issue.”

Craven Mosaic and Craft Group meets at the cricket club, off Main Street, every Thursday afternoon from 12.30pm to 3pm.

Participants do not need any experience of mosaics or other crafts is necessary. Sessions cost £2 which includes materials and tea/coffee and biscuits.
