DOM Pipkin promises Smokin’ Boogie at Bradford Playhouse on May 20.

Dom, one of Europe’s most authentic and spirited blues and jazz piano players, will present tales of the big easy, bourbon and bad boys.

His one-man show is described as a rollercoaster ride through the rich world of New Orleans, featuring astonishing stories and breathtaking piano.

He will conjure up brothels and barrel-houses, love, sex and tragedy, spells and Mardi Gras Queens in their rawest setting – a man, a piano, a glass of bourbon and panama hat.

The audience will hear about colourful lives of Jelly Roll Morton, Professor Longhair and the drug-fuelled funk and psychedelia of Dr John and James Booker.

A spokesman said: “Dom Pipkin is a lively and passionate performer, who transports his audience to a magical world of New Orleans piano. His experiences are real and resonating.”

“Pipkin has performed extensively in New Orleans, and shared stages with international icons Allen Toussaint, Dr John, and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins.

“His work has ranged from teaching Jonathan Ross the piano to privately entertaining the film director Stanley Kubrick, and performing to the opening committee of the 2012 London Olympics.”
