ENTHUSIASTS for both Alan Ayckbourn and Bingley Little Theatre (BLT) will be delighted this month.

That’s the proclamation from BLT bosses as they prepare to present the Scarborough playwright’s comedy Sisterly Feelings.

First performed in 1979, Sisterly Feelings is a sexual comedy of manners with a difference.

In fact there are several differences since there are four possible versions of the plot depending on the toss of a coin at the end of the first scene.

At a memorial outing following a family funeral, two sisters – Abigail and Dorcas – make the acquaintance of Simon, the handsome brother of one of the family mourners.

With not enough space for everyone to travel home by car, a coin tossed by Simon determines which sister gets to walk home with him. This means one of the women becomes intimately acquainted with the object of their desires and the other one doesn’t.

The flip of this coin decides which of the variants gets performed on stage each night.

BLT spokesman, Bruce Grainger, said: “Chance and choice are the stock-in-trade of Ayckbourn’s plays, but Sisterly Feelings, with its permutations of plot, carries the playwright’s favourite theme to new heights.

“For the audience, the combination of an experienced cast, a skilled director and a consummate master of the art of theatre promise an evening of just plain enjoyment.”

Sisterly Feelings runs from May 22 to 26 at 7.30pm. Visit ticketsource.co.uk or call 01274 567983 to book tickets.
