TASTER sessions are being offered by a Glusburn dance school as it celebrates competition success across the north.

The long-established Amore School of Dance is hosting free sessions in rock ‘n’ roll, cheer dance and street dance.

The sessions at the school’s base in Glusburn Institute will be accompanied by testers for adults in Zumba.

The classes are: rock ‘n’ roll for ages eight to 15, 6.15pmto to 6.45pm; cheerdance for ages five to 15, 6.45pm to 7.30pm; street dance for ages eight to 15, 7.30pm to 8pm; Zumba for adults, 8pm to 8.45pm.

School principal Deborah Amore said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to try out a new class. No equipment is needed, just wear leggings/jogging bottoms and trainers.”

The Amore School of Dance was formerly known as Circle Dance Centre , and for many years before that the Circle School of Ballroom Dancing.

Deborah, previously Deborah Higson, who started dancing at the age of five in the school set up by her parents.

Deborah herself became a qualified teacher at the age of 17.

She is joined at the school by three other qualified teachers - Pamela Higson, Gemma Austin and Joan Earle qualified student-teacher Emilia Butter.

Debra said: “We offer classes and tuition in cheerdance, streetdance, freestyle, slowdance, lyrical, rock ‘n’ roll, Latin American, modern ballroom and classical sequence.

“We have pupils from 18 months, sometimes younger, or to adults of all ages.

An adults’ Dance-Fit class runs on Tuesday evenings at Glusburn Insitute from 7pm to 7.45pm. As well as solo routines in cheerdance, streetdance and rock ‘n’ roll.

Debra said: “This is a relaxed, friendly class ideal for anyone wanting to learn routines and get dancing. It is suitable for total beginners.”

Deborah’s school has for many years taken dances to competitions at the famous Tower Ballroom in Blackpool, and recently sent pupils to cheer dance competitions at the nearby Winter Gardens and further down the west coast in Southport.

The dance school is just one of a host of organisations which run activities that Glusburn Institute, the village’s arts and community centre.
